Michael R. Alvers

Dr. Michael R. Alvers has extensive management experience in various high-tech companies in positions such as Director Bioinformatics, Director Product Marketing and Business and Director Product Development. In addition, he has considerable experience managing large software projects. He is the initiator and creator of Proteomweaver, an award-winning software package for biological image analysis. He has total responsibility for the company's strategic business direction, corporate finances and staffing.

Michael received a Masters degree in Geophysics and holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics, both from the Free University of Berlin. He has studied and worked in Berlin, Stanford, Munich and La Plata, Argentina. He has attended and conducted various expeditions to the Central Andes and to the North Pole. Michael also holds a private pilot's license.


Michael Schroeder

Prof. Dr. Michael Schroeder is a professor of bioinformatics in both TU Dresden's Biotechnological Center and Computer Science Faculty. His research focuses on protein interactions derived from protein structures and from the scientific literature using textmining. His group has developed www.gopubmed.com as well as www.scoppi.org. He has published over 140 peer review articles on his research and manages a number of national and international research projects worth over 6.8 Mio. Euro including the EU projects Sealife, REWERSE and the BMWi project GoOn. He is a member of the W3C's Health Care and Life Science Interest Group. Before moving to Dresden in 2003 he worked for 6 years at City University in London as a lecturer and senior lecturer.

Michael holds a PhD from the University of Hannover and has studied and worked in Karlsruhe, Aachen, London and Lisbon.


Liliana Barrio-Alvers

Dr. Liliana Barrio-Alvers worked for 14 years as a scientist at the University of La Plata, Argentina and for more than 6 years as a professor of Geophysics. In Europe, she moved into computing, computer linguistics and applied techniques used in geophysics for information extraction. In her 6-year industry carrier at companies such as SailLabs AG, Comprendium AG, Definiens AG, the Max-Planck-Institut for Biochemistry in Munich and interActive Systems GmbH, she worked as a research scientist and a specialist in information extraction. At Transinsight she is responsible for the technical coordination between University research and the industrial realization of software on the company side. Liliana holds a PhD in Geophysics from the University of La Plata, Argentina. The research for this thesis was done at the Freie Universität Berlin under the umbrella of a DAAD fellowship. She studied and worked in Buenos Aires, Munich and Berlin.

Eckehart Behncke joined Daimler-Benz AG in 1963 as an assistant to the sales management. In 1979 he became the sales manager for passenger cars in Germany and in 1984 he was the first representative for Daimler-Benz in Japan. His research of the Japanese market led to the foundation of the Mercedes-Benz Japan Co. Ltd. Furthermore, he represented the company as chairman of the "European Business Community" for commercial vehicles and as vice chairman for Aeronautics and Space. In 1992 he returned to Germany and joined the executive board of Daimler-Benz AG for Eastern Germany, where he was responsible for installing a sales organization. 1998 he became adviser to the president and was promoted to director of the company. Mr. Behncke was appointed honorary consul of Slovenia for the federal states of Brandenburg and Saxony in 2000. In this capacity he initiated a program for bilateral visits of trade delegations. His further honorary posts are: adviser to the Honorary Consul Union of Germany, vice president of the German-Japanese Association, and member of the German-Japanese Standing Committee on Industry and Trade. Since 2005, Mr. Behncke has been a senior advisor to Daimler AG. In this role he is responsible for close contact with all international ambassadors, the protocol of the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Office of Foreign Affairs, and the administration of Brandenburg. He is also in charge of negotiations and transactions of international state affairs at the embassies.

Prof. Dr. Bernd J. Hoefer is Chairman & CEO of A9C Capital W.L.L. - Business Consultants & Technology Advisors, an Private Equity/Venture Capital company focused on technology investments based in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He is based in the Kingdom of Bahrain since 2006 and was engaged in many top projects and business ventures in Bahrain and GCC. Dr. Hoefer`s experience in global finance and technology spans nearly three decades with key roles in accounting (Certified Public Accountant/WP/StB), business consultancy and financial advisory at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and duties as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Innovation Officer with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) where he also served as a vice chairman of the executive board. From the privatization of Lufthansa German Airlines and various major airports, to aerospace research in materials, propulsion and navigation in association with NASA, and the European Space Agency (ESA), Dr. Hoefer`s contribution to and involvement with high-tech developments and innovations is substantial. Additionally he has served on the boards and committees of various technology leaders and business organizations including the European Organization of Nuclear Research (CERN) Geneva, Centre for Science and Research Management (Speyer), T-Systems Solutions for Research (Oberpfaffenhofen), Application Centre for Satellite Navigation (Oberpfaffenhofen), Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Cologne) and the Commerzbank (Dusseldorf) just to name a few of them. Schooled at leading universities in Austria and Germany with a PhD from the University of Cologne, Dr. Hoefer`s academic credentials include teaching tenures at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne (RFH) and its counterpart in Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.

Hans-Dieter Machuta has more than 30 years experience of sales and management positions in international High-Tech-Companies in the fields of Software (Internet and ASP-Solutions), Software for electronic engineering (EDA) and the semi conductor industry with the main focus at customer specific design (ASIC). He has built up european organizations for international companies right from the start and also restructured sales and support organizations for mergers, as one example, and created sales and support teams in the USA. Hans-Dieter Machuta studied communications engineering at the University of applied Sciences in Munich (BSEE) and successfully completed various advanced management trainings like “Deutsche Verkaufsleiterschule”, Solution- and Target-Account-Selling courses, as well as advanced trainings for human resource management and general management. At the present Mr. Machuta is the CEO (MD) of SSA Softsolutions GmbH in Mühlhausen near Augsburg, Germany. Before this he worked for ZETEX plc, a London stock exchange listed Semiconductor Company. He was responsible for the whole European business. Hans-Dieter Machuta worked in similar positions at venture capital funded startups or NASDAQ established enterprises like Cadence Design Systems, Inc. or Viewlogic, Inc.
